The show began with the announcement that Randy Orton was unable to compete due to circumstances beyond WWE’s control and that a battle royal would be held to determine the third man at Knights Triple Threat. Riddle successfully entered the show-opening battle royal, appealing to compete for Orton. During the match, Drew Gulak pinned Akira Tozawa to win the 24/7 title, R-Truth pinned Gulak to win the belt, and then Tozawa pinned a pin to go with the title. The match came down to Riddle and Damien Priest as the final two, before Riddle was able to secure the win and advance to the triple threat.
