Squid Game Season 2 Release Date
Now, it’s time to get to know the exact K-Ojingyo Geum (Squid Game) popular Korean game for kids. In its 2021 incarnation, it is a game of survival and the story of the much-awaited Netflix drama, Squid Game, which released on September 17.
The eight-episode series directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk (The Fortress, Miss Granny) unfolds like a dystopian drama. Masked characters attract 456 contestants from various backgrounds to participate in the game with a cash prize of 456 million won (about $40 million). But they have no idea how extreme things will turn out.
Played on a board-like set, deceptively painted in pastel colors, contestants dressed in green tracksuits are watched over by anonymous masked entities. It quickly becomes a visual statement of class division and a competitive struggle for existence, as the characters’ anger and frustration come to the fore, even as they try to outdo the other.
The drama, starring Lee Jung-jae (reminiscent of The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner) – is known for its on-screen characters, whether it’s a bodyguard in Sandglass or a brutal murderer in Deliver Us From Evil. You play as an unemployed man burdened with debt, who becomes a willing participant in the game.
“My character keeps on changing in terms of his personality and emotions, the story he portrays, and the way he approaches each game,” he said via video call with co-star Park Hee-soo and an interpreter. “As an actor, it was a challenge to draw the most out of me and make it look real,” he says.
