Cricket lovers are ready to welcome the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023). The inaugural edition of the franchise cricket tournament will feature many of the highest ranked cricketers in the world. Five mighty teams including Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and UP Warriors will battle it out during the month-long campaign for the maiden trophy. WPL 2023 will begin with a big clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants on 4th March.
In the first stage of WPL, all the teams will face each other twice during the league stage as per double round-robin format. This means that each team will have to play a total of eight matches before progressing to the knockout stage. Based on their points in the group stage, the top team will advance directly to the final, while the second and third placed teams in the table will compete in a play-off to decide their places in the title clash.
The WPL 2023 qualifiers are scheduled to take place on March 24, while the final match will be played on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
The Women’s Premier League will be played in a double round with one match in the knockout stage followed by the final on March 26. Each WPL 2023 team can have a maximum of six overseas players and must have a maximum squad of 18 players. The first auction for WPL 2023 took place on 13 February in Mumbai. Many foreign players like Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, Amelia Kerr and others are participating in the first season of WPL. There are five teams in WPL 2023, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriors and Gujarat Giants.
